The different roles women and men play in deadly conflicts and in efforts to prevent and end them.
We promote tolerance, conflict resolution and awareness initiatives that strengthen safety and trust within communities.
Conflict never affects everyone equally. The different roles that women and men play in disputes — and in the effort to prevent and resolve them — remain under-researched and poorly understood in our communities. Noor-e-Kainat Welfare Trust works to understand how conflict shapes the lives of the people it displaces, and to bring the voices of deprived communities into the conversations that decide their safety.
Including those voices in security and post-conflict reconstruction is, we believe, critical to building resilient societies and lasting solutions. We support the full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions on peacekeeping, leadership that reflects the community it serves, and greater participation of minorities and young people in peace processes.
Peacebuilding rests on two things: recognising community leaders as peacemakers within their own neighbourhoods, and making sure that public needs are genuinely addressed rather than merely noted.
The approaches we draw on are the established ones — negotiation, where the parties engage in dialogue to settle the issue between them; mediation, where a neutral third party helps without imposing an outcome; conciliation, where that third party works with each side separately; collaboration, where parties choose to plan and run common projects together; arbitration and adjudication, where a binding decision rests with an arbiter or a court; counselling, where personal conflict has led to frustration and loss; and conflict transformation, which looks beyond settling a dispute to rebuilding the relationship that follows it.
In practice our work takes the form of awareness sessions, fact-finding, dialogue and representation, expanding the network of young peacebuilders, carrying young people's voices into local decision-making, and funding youth-led peacebuilding in the communities we serve.
Your generosity makes this work possible. Together we can extend this service to more families across Pakistan who need it most.
